Orange is the Black star Taylor Schilling recently opened up to i-D magazine about her character, Piper Chapman and more.
You can check out a portion of the interview below….
So, Series Two, I’ve seen the first six episodes. What can we give away?
Well the official line is ‘Don’t say anything!’ One of my favourite things about the show, in addition to being able to play Piper, but the show as a whole, is how we get to see inside the lives of all of these different women. Everyone is a specific entity, a specific individual and that’s what I love and I think there’s much more of that in this season. I love that we get to see what’s happening with different people and we get to know them more intimately.
And it’s funny too, right?
Yeah, that’s the whole thing, it’s hilarious.
How would Taylor deal with prison? Personally it’s one of my biggest fears.
For me, it’s not like a fear. For me, fear is, like, sharks.
So you’d be ok?
No, not at all! I’d never in a million years be alright (laughs). But it’s not like my phobia. It sounds like it’s your phobia. I think I’m pretty resilient. I’m a little bit like a cockroach. Wait, I don’t know if cockroach is the right word? You could shake me up and I’d figure it out. I’d probably not be a happy camper but I’d probably figure it out on some level.
Do you have to just beat people up?
I don’t know. I think as a woman you have to be wilier. It’s less about beating people up and more about figuring out how to make friends with the right people.
This is why I’d be no good in prison.
No, you wouldn’t be. If it happens, let me know and I’ll brief you. Just get in touch with me.
How do you feel Piper develops in Season Two?
I want to ask you that question ‘cos you’ve seen it and I haven’t yet!
