Netflix’s Original Series ‘Orange Is The New Black’ is known for it’s diversity. In Season 2, we got to see more of the Latina girls as they took over Red’s kitchen and spiced things up a bit. We saw the young, yet outspoken ladies, Flaca portrayed by Jackie Cruz and Maritza portrayed by Dianne Guerrero interact with more of the Litchfield inmates. Flaca took on the role as an advice columnist for Piper’s failed newsletter, and also had a makeout session with her bestie Martiza.

We recently interviewed the lovely Jackie Cruz, and talked about her obsession with binge watching Season 2 of OITNB, her musical inspirations, and her thoughts on the possibility of a Flaca backstory in Season 3.

OITNB.COM: Have you had the chance to watch all of Season 2 of Orange Is The New Black?

Jackie Cruz: Of course, I have been binge watching since June 6th. I am on my third round. Just can’t get enough of Orange.

So we got see more of the Latina girls (Flaca & Maritza) this season and the fans loved it. What are your thoughts on this?

Well one of my favorite scenes with Maritza was the kissing scene because it showcased every emotion possible in less than one minute. I’m happy the camera captured our skills of balancing and feeling several emotions at once.

What was your favorite scene to film in Season 2?

I have to say the Job Mock fair scene with Danielle Brooks. It was so much fun to shoot and have a second scene where we had more of a competitive edge to it unlike our last fighting scene. OITNB Season 2

It looks as though everyone was hooking up in Season 2, would you have liked for Flaca & Martiza to take things further than their friendship?

I think what we did was very realistic and it was perfect so, No. Flaca had the opportunity to show that she is vulnerable and not just a trouble maker.

Thus far, what have been your favorite quotes from the series?

One of my favorite quotes would have to be from Brook Soso “you sold me for a blanket”. I also loved what my character Flaca said about Love — then agreed with Martiza “and you also have a pizza”.

If you could choose a prison wife who would it be and why?

Hmm…. Good question… I would say Alex Vause. Her sex appeal is through the roof. And, she’s taller than me. LOL

Who would be the ideal person to guest star on the show?

I would like another talented Latina on the show, so maybe Salma Hayek or Michelle Rodriguez.

What are you looking forward to the most in Season 3?

I love finding out all about the back stories and I’m dying to know why Flaca is in there.

11Do you think we’ll get a back story for Flaca in Season 3?

I’m happy to be apart of the show regardless, but I do hope so. It will help me understand her more.

What characters would you like to have interaction with in Season 3?

I had so much fun working with Lorna and Piper, so I would like more screen time with them. I also think Soso and Flaca would be friends somehow.

So we know you’re doing your thing as a musician, who would you say inspires you?

I love and adore Fiona Apple, Elvis Costello, Etta James, Tracy Chapman and the list goes on….

If you could say anything to upcoming actors or musicians trying to break into the industry what advice would you offer them?

This career is very tough, but if it’s in your heart it’s well worth it. Please never give up on your dream and always believe in yourself. Take criticism as constructive and work on your craft everyday.

Is there anything you would like to say your fans?

I want to thank all our Orange fans for their support, and let them know I’m beyond grateful for their following. Their interest and messages on social media is what has kept us growing, and changing pop culture on television and in Hollywood.

We named 2 things and Jackie had to pick one one over the other.
